I only have a Facebook page

First off, we’re not saying that you need a website. You might be doing PERFECTLY WELL thank you very much generating work from your Facebook, Instagram and other Social Media activity. But, well, you’re here. So maybe you’re the one thinking you need a website.

Consolidate your presence

It’s great that you’re already active online, promoting through your Social Media channels. A website will help strengthen your online presence, giving your business a more professional appearance. Would you entrust your money to a bank that only had a Facebook page? You can link to your website from your Facebook, Insta and other accounts. It shows that you’ve invested in yourself and your business.

What websites do well

We all love Facebook, but its feed is a timeline. It’s hard to find things if they didn’t happen five minutes ago. People don’t want to scroll through months of entries and random images to know if you do…underwater baby photography for instance. But, as a photographer with a website, you could clarify what types of photography work you do, with your very best work samples featured. Websites do the following types of thing really well.

  • Image galleries and portfolios of work

  • Thematic groups of images, i.e. ‘Loft Conversions’ or ‘Acrylic Portraits’

  • Before and after images for projects

  • Clear contact and location information, embedded using Google Maps

  • Enquiry forms (for a more professional feel than a Messenger message)

  • About you sections (ethos, approach, back story etc.)

  • Testimonials (written, or embedded video) and Facebook reviews

  • Embedded Instagram galleries

  • Embedded Twitter feeds

Qs to ask yourself

Here’s an idea of some questions to ask yourself around getting a site created.

  • When does your site need to be live?

  • What is your website about?

  • Who do you want your website to appeal to?

  • What pages will you need? About, Contact, Pricing, Gallery, News?

  • Does any other software need to be integrated?

  • Do you already have imagery for us to use?

  • Is new website-specific photography needed?

  • Do you have a logo or do we need to create one?

  • Do you have the words written for your website?

  • Do you need to work with one of our writers or editors?

  • Who will be in charge of updating the site once live?

  • Do you need any other marketing or after-site care from us?
